#1: Building Things

The idea for this blog had been simmering in my mind for a while. I wanted to create something that allowed me to take the skills I’ve learned over the years and actually put them to use. Funny enough, while I’m pretty comfortable reading and understanding code, writing it has always been a challenge for me. You’d think that with a communications degree, writing would come more naturally—but here we are!

The real push to start this came from a LinkedIn post by one of my fraternity brothers. He shared his journey of building his own website and the process behind it. That post inspired me to take action. I decided to use AI tools to help me bridge the gap between understanding code and actually writing it. And so, this site was born—a project where I can share who I am and what I do.

A Bit About Me

I’m a Systems Engineer with a focus on client (endpoint) management. My work revolves around Microsoft products like Azure, Intune, M365, and my frequent adversary, OneDrive. These tools keep me on my toes, providing daily challenges that push me to grow and improve.

Before I got into IT, I earned my degree from The Ohio State University. While my degree wasn’t technical, it gave me invaluable experiences that I draw on every day—whether I’m tackling communication issues or solving complex technical problems. Transitioning into the IT field from a non-technical background has been a rewarding journey. It’s been a lot of learning, but I thrive on that.

Why This Blog?

I know most people (if any!) will not read this, but that’s okay. My goal here is to explore the technical aspects of my work and share what I’ve been experimenting with in my homelab. It’s always evolving, and I find it a great way to keep learning.

One of the first topics I plan to cover is how I set up this site and the tools I used to build it. It won’t be a step-by-step tutorial, but more of a behind-the-scenes look at my thought process as I pieced it all together using free resources I found online. Honestly, the biggest challenge for me will be organizing everything in a way that makes sense to others—because let’s face it, my brain can be a messy place.

I’m really excited to start this journey and share a mix of insights from my work life and personal projects. I hope it’s not just helpful for others but also a way for me to reflect on and grow from my experiences.
